2019 Asia-Pacific Forum for Science Talented (ILO/005)

The Asia-Pacific Forum for Science Talented (APFst) hosted by the K–12 Education Administration, Ministry of Education, Taiwan and organized by the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) is designed to provide middle and high school students with opportunities to get to know each other, showcase their talent, and work collaboratively. This year’s APFst will operate again at the NTNU campus in July 2019 with interesting and stimulating activities.

This overseas programme provides students with opportunities to

  • to brainstorm ideas, work collaboratively and creativity in the multinational team-based student hands-on project sessions;
  • to meet new friends and develop long-term friendship with overseas gifted students and gifted education professionals and continue to share their learning experience with each other; and
  • to promote cultural exchange while enhancing their academic development.

Content and other details:

  • Theme: Infusing Leadership into Science Teaching;
  • Participated students will attend the hands-on project and will be divided into multinational teams with students from other countries / regions;
  • Participated students will get hands-on experience in the scientific and technological knowledge base and have the chance to network with peers;

  • 3 HKAGE student members aged 13-16 (must be 13-16 on 6 July 2019) with outstanding performance in Sciences;
  • Shows a genuine interest in and desire to learn science and technology;
  • Fluent in English;
  • Physically and mentally healthy;
  • Have the mental fortitude to carry out group activities for 5 days; and
  • Have extensive knowledge of his/her own society, culture, etc.

Fee :

  • The net cost will be around HK$1,300 – HK$1,500 per student which depends on the final total number of participants. Students will be responsible to pay their own airfare and taxes on the flights between Hong Kong and Taipei.

  • There will be no registration fees and the organizing committee will provide the participants’ living, meals and local transportation during the forum. 

  • For overseas programmes, to the order of 50% of the programme cost will be on-charged to the student member and the remaining 50% subsidised by the HKAGE, to a maximum of HK$10,000 per student member per academic year. The maximum subsidy for student members who are granted eligible government subsidies are different and may apply for increasing the maximum subsidy limit.  Details please refer to the Overseas Programme Subsidy Policy.

  • Student members with financial difficulties may apply for fee remission on the 50% of the programme cost on-charged to each student member. Details please refer to the Fee Remission Policy.

Travel document and visa: Students must bring along their travel document which is valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of departure and a Taiwan visa (if applicable)

Application procedure and deadline:

Applicants should complete the followings -

Screening interview:

The shortlisted result will be announced on 2 Apr 2019 (Tue) by email. Shortlisted applicants are required to attend a screening interview held on 4 Apr 2019 (Thu)Absences will be considered as withdrawal.  Make-up interviews will not be arranged.

Applicant result:

Shortlisted applicants should log in the “Programme Application Result” in the HKAGE website to check the application result after 5:00 p.m. on 12 Apr 2019 (Fri).
